The September  RRLug meeting had 10 members attending.  We met at Rasmussen @ 6:30pm, but shifted the meeting to a classroom in order to use a whiteboard. Next month we will again return to the boardroom!

  • Python Development – Calvin Schultz  discussed and  demoed a new automation framework he has been developing in Python. He also discussed many  of the issues that you need to keep in mind when developing complex projects in the language.
  • Linux BotNet Discussion –  Joe Granneman of Illumination.io, our resident security expert gave a great  discussion on the most recent Linux Botnet, its impact, attack vectors, and ways of protecting your Apache/Tomcat servers from its damaging effects. Joe provided a very enlightening look into the world of the Cyber Security Analyst.
  • Open Source Security Opportunities – Joe Granneman  also gave a discussion about his new security company, Illumination.io, and their needs for security talent with a focus on  Linux/FOSS. They are seriously looking for individuals interested in doing security consulting, penetration testing, forensic analysis, and compliance.

We had a really good meeting and wished more of the members had been able to attend.
